Judging by his skills on the dirt tracks and snow, you would never guess a person at this level is only 16. Originally from Ohkay Owingeh, NM, Ulysses tells us the mountains have always been a place where he can detach from his problems and live in the moment. Mountain Biking and skiing showed him that he could be in the mountains and satisfy his adrenaline addiction at the same time.
My favorite pro athlete? That would have to be Josh Bryceland, says Ulysses. “He’s ridiculously smooth and fast on the bike and watching his videos always inspires me to go out and progress my own riding”
Ulysses’ favorite trails to ride include Bonecrusher at Pajarito bike park, Supreme DH at Angel Fire Bike Park, Winsor Trail in Santa Fe, Jagged Axe in Glorieta and Atalaya Trail in Santa Fe. But when Ski season comes around you can find Ulysses at Pajarito Mountain.
When asked what his perfect day would be, Ulysses said it would be hitting laps all day in the bike park with his homies, shuttle laps in the afternoon and maybe a sunset trail ride afterward.
When asked where he sees the bike industry in 5 years, Ulysses says he hopes the bike industry “chills out a bit with the new standards and stick with the current ones for a while”. That being said, he is really looking forward to seeing what new technologies are introduced. “I can see mountain biking continue to gain popularity and become another “staple sport” alongside basketball, soccer etc. As technology advances. I think we will see high-level racing get faster and gnarlier than ever.”
