New Mexico Mountain Sports recently had the opportunity to talk to our good friend and Albuquerque native Antonio “tone” Baca. Here is what he had to say and a few images from some recent trail rides.
NMMS: What made you get into Mountain Biking?
Tone:The ability to go way faster than a bmx seemed fun to me. I was able to cover a lot of ground as a kid living in the south valley where there’s mostly farmland and ditches. I rode the bosque trails a ton, as well, so mountain bikes made way more sense to me than a bmx.
NMMS: Who is currently your favorite mountain bike pro athlete?
Tone: That would be Aaron Gwin
NMMS: What are some of your favorite tracks here in New Mexico?
Tone: North Course (Sandia DH), Rio En Medio in Santa Fe, Otero Canyon in Tijeras, Windsor Trail in Santa Fe, Franks n beans
NMMS: What bike are you currently Riding?
Tone: The Intense Carbine
NMMS: Where do you see the sport going from here:
Tone: I see the sport getting larger in the next 5 years since enduro is becoming more popular. I think there will be more enduro races in the US since anyone with a trail bike can participate, unlike downhill.
